Dear Vivi,
I wanted to
share a story with you about Bubbie. She
told the story to your Dad and I a couple of weeks ago when we visited her.
Bubbie’s
father was a foreman in a clothing factory.
He made Bubbie a beautiful coat for winter. It was brown and had huge pockets. Pockets that were so big she could put her
books in them. The coat did not have
buttons instead it wrapped around her and she tied it closed with a belt. Bubbie loved this coat so much she wore it
every day.
Bubbie had a
cousin named Pearl who was around her age.
Pearl had a very hard life and very little money. Pearl came to visit one day and she only had
a very light coat that you would wear in the spring not for winter. Bubbie’s father took Bubbie aside and told
her that she should give her warm coat to Pearl. He promised to make Bubbie a new coat. Bubbie did as her father asked.
Bubbie’s
father did make her a new coat as he promised.
Bubbie did say she liked the first coat better. That is who your Great Grandfather Meyer
was. He believed in helping others
wherever he could. He taught that lesson
to your Bubbie and she carried that legacy through her life.
Aunt Rhi and
I found Thank you notes to Bubbie from people who she helped that we had no
idea she had done those good deeds. Just
as she found letters to her Father of thanks for his kindnesses done unto
others.

form of wisdom is kindness”

Have a great
week!
I love you!
