Bitch - Before it became a naughty word in Christian Europe, "bitch" was a sacred title of the Goddess Artemis/Diana. The Old English word for a hunting dog, "bawd", also became a curse because it referred to the Huntress's priestesses as well as her dogs.
Christians viewed the phrase "son of a bitch" as insulting, not because it meant a dog, but a devil - the spiritual son of the Goddess.
When I, on occasion, am called a bitch, I respond by saying:
"Thank you. And by the way, I may be a bitch, but I'm not your bitch."
